Working From Home

Work at home can mean almost anything these days.

While I believe that the best work at home opportunity for anyone is Affiliate Marketing, and the best place to learn every aspect of this is with Wealthy Affiliate,

I recently decided to check a major job board and below are some of the work from home jobs being offered.work-from-home

  • Virtual assistant
  • Web developer/designer
  • Writer / editor
  • Social Media Manager
  • Resume writer
  • Translator
  • Call center representative
  • Tech support specialist
  • Travel agent
  • Language Instructor / Teacher
  • Sales Representative
  • Survey taker.
  • Recruiter
  • In home tutor
  • Researcher
  • Debt collections
  • Bookkeeper
  • Fund raiser
  • Medical transcription

With the exception of the top six on this list, you pretty much need to have had formal training and it is unlikely that you would have learned the necessary skills at home. They are basically jobs that companies are moving from the office to allow their employees to work from home.

When I hear people talking about finding a work from home job, they generally mean that they want to work for themselves but they lack formal training and / or qualifications.

Here, we are basically going to look at those first six jobs:

Virtual Assistant “VA”

Essentially a self employed personal assistant who will work as a contractor for several different “bosses” at the same time. Generally the “boss” doesn’t need a full-time assistant so it is more practical and economical to use a VA who can work from home.

This can be just about anything really. Some of the common tasks are listed below.

  • Call answering.
  • Email handling.
  • Customer follow-up.
  • Online Research
  • Data entry
  • Maintaining appointment schedules.
  • Making travel arrangements.
  • Social Media matters.
  • General secretary duties.

Pros:

For the VA, they can work with different people, work at home and if they have a few clients, the pay can be excellent.

Cons:

Often need to be available at very short notice, especially when starting with a client until an acceptable routine can be established. However, their flexibility is a major reason why so many companies make use of VAs.

Web Developer/Designer

This is one of the cornerstones of Wealthy Affiliate. Everything you need to know is right here..

You will learn these highly marketable skills and you will become an authority in this field. Just follow the training!

Writer/Blogger

Don’t bet the farm on this one until you’re well established. Again, this is covered in fantastic detail with Wealthy Affiliate’s training. You will learn both from the training and the experience you will gain from your own sites how to write quality content.

Examples of writing positions are:

Authorwrite an ebook on subjects that you are familiar with. If it’s an authority type of book, .e.g. how to write computer programs or how to adapt your home to run off solar energy, you’d better know what you are talking about.

Thanks to companies such as Amazon, you can publish it for free on their Kindle platform and you will receive 70% of the proceeds. More on this in another post, coming soon!

As I said above, Wealthy Affiliate has a wealth of information and training on this and, as I also said, try it for free here

Blogger:

Using your training here at Wealthy Affiliate, one of the basic things you will be doing is blogging, also known as posting in some parts. You will have your own blog going anyway that you can try and monetize with affiliate advertising, or you can blog for other organizations. The latter may take some time to get up and running as you will need to build some credibility but it can be a good source of income.

There are a number of sites that will accept and pay for posts. They each have their own regulations and standards regarding quality, etc.

This is another subject that I will cover in much more detail soon.

Social Media Manager

For this position, you will need not only website and email skills but knowledge of other forms of social media, such as Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, etc. If you contract yourself to a large organization, this will probably not be a work from home position but there are many companies, particularly small ones, that have no social media presence at all – here is your opportunity.so

One thing to consider here is that the very nature of social media these days means that this is not suitable if you only want to work at this say in the evening, weekends or whenever suits you as consumers have come to expect a reasonably fast response – for most people a “response within 24 or 48 hours” doesn’t cut it.

Excellent training is provided with Wealthy Affiliate and what is just as important, the database of members’ questions, along with the help from the WA community will probably cover any questions you may have.

Resume Writer

There is still a demand for this but you will need to build your reputation or internet presence as it is a highly competitive field.Yet again the training at Wealthy Affiliate will show you the way and there are many templates available online along with those that are included in word processing software that you can utilize.

This service will also allow you to easily build an email list, thus giving you more opportunities to contact your clients about other services you may offer.

Translator

This is a skill that is becoming more important as the effects of globalization are becoming more prominent. More and more companies and individuals are doing business internationally these days, therefore the role of a translator is growing in importance. While large organizations may well use their own in-house translators, much of this work is still contracted on an “as needed basis”, so using outside, independents is the way to go for most.

The opportunities are not limited to the business world as many individuals are in need of translation services for the following:-

  • Documents for immigration and emigration purposes.
  • Legal documents such as rental contracts, purchase agreements.
  • General correspondence with organizations and individuals in foreign countries – perhaps requesting information on a cultural event or a letter when applying to a school or college when plugging something into Google Translate won’t do. .
